Gyazo was launched in Japan around 2010 by Takenori Nakamura and his team. The premise was ultra-minimal: click, capture, get a URL. A screenshot taken with Gyazo is instantly uploaded and you get a shareable link copied to your clipboard — no sign-up required for basic use. The simplicity drove enormous adoption, particularly among gamers, developers, and communities sharing visual content on forums. Over time Gyazo evolved to support GIF capture, video recording, and annotations. The free tier was generous; Gyazo Pro added longer video, private images, and bulk downloads. The app grew to tens of millions of captures per month, with a particularly strong following in Japan and the gaming/developer communities globally. Revenue came from Gyazo Pro subscriptions and has grown to an estimated $50k+/month.
