Luki Lab, founded by Balint Orosz and team in Vienna, Austria, launched Craft in 2020 as a native document editor for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. Craft occupied a specific niche: documents that were more structured than a note-taking app but less complex than a project management tool. The design was exceptional — Craft felt like something Apple itself would build, with block-based editing, beautiful typography, and seamless iCloud sync. Craft supported rich documents with nested blocks, backlinks, sharing to the web, and collaboration. The business model was freemium with Craft Personal free and Craft for Teams paid ($10/month per user). Craft spread through the Apple design community and knowledge workers who wanted a Notion alternative that felt native rather than web-wrapped. The app won an Apple Design Award in 2021. Revenue grew to $100k+/month from a global community of Apple users. Craft raised a small seed round but kept operations lean and product-focused, remaining one of the most design-forward note-taking apps available.
